We featured the song Stuck in Indianapolis by Bottle Rockets this week, sort of setting up this post. It’s a fun song that we completely identify with. This musician has been touring the country and is now stuck in Indianapolis after his van breaks down. Not able to move forward in miles or life he just has to wait out what comes next.
We often feel stuck in towns. We do not get to choose my travel schedule, we work seven days a week and we don’t get to choose our projects either. I think that many people forget that I don’t travel all these miles for fun: I’m working. Even when we aren’t doing a show or setting up are still attached to the truck in some way. I can’t just park it and go off somewhere for the weekend. The show vehicle is our responsibility. Also there is always paperwork, reports and pre-planning to do.
Not that I am complaining, I love my job. I don’t mind the crazy hours or the paperwork. I don’t mind being sent to some tiny town in the middle of nowhere Indiana. The drive there is sure to be nice and well my vehicle has a bed in the back. Road trips are whole lot more fun when you have a fridge, Wi-Fi and pillows.
So while we do get stuck in Indianapolis occasionally with no way to get around, I can go West and will be going East.
